Celebrate Stephen Sondheim's 80th Birthday!


Sondheim Birthday-9746 Join many famous and talented Broadway performers as they pay tribute to Stephen Sondheim and celebrate his 80th birthday.  The two hour concert, Great Performances: Sondheim! The Birthday Concert will air on WPBT2 on Wednesday, November 24 at 9:00 p.m.

Hosted by David Hyde Pierce, who provides sardonic narration throughout the Sondheim Birthday-9942 evening, the cast, a veritable Who’s Who of Broadway’s finest performers, includes (in alphabetical order): Laura Benanti, Matt Cavanaugh, Michael Cerveris, Victoria Clark, Jenn Colella, Jason Danieley, Joanna Gleason, Nathan Gunn, George Hearn, Blaine Hoven, Patti LuPone, Marin Mazzie, Audra McDonald, John McMartin, Donna Murphy, Laura Osnes, Mandy Patinkin, Bernadette Peters, Maria Riccetto, Bobby Steggert, Elaine Stritch, Jim Walton, Chip Zien, and from the current production of “West Side Story,” Karen Olivo, who gets the evening off to a spirited start leading the dancers in “America.”

The concert includes songs and orchestral pieces from Sondheim musical theater favorites such as Company,FolliesA Little Night MusicSweeney ToddMerrily We Roll AlongInto the Woods, and Sunday in the Park with George.

ATTENTION YOUNG PERFORMERS!

Actors' Playhouse is holding open auditions on SATURDAY, AUGUST 28 for ages 8-12 for the upcoming production of "Oliver!" Performers must be 5' 4'' or shorter and have an unchanged soprano voice. Rehearsal dates are October 23 - November 16, 2010 and will mostly be nights and weekends. Show ...dates are November 17 - December 26, 2010, Wednesday - Saturday at 8 p.m., Saturday - Sunday at 2 p.m. Some 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. weekday performances will be scheduled throughout the run. This production will be double cast.

Inspired by the passionate love affair between Dr. Anton Mesmer and the beautiful blind pianist Maria-Theresa von Paradis, The Comfort of Darkness is a romantic drama about the pioneer of hypnosis and a forerunner of Freudian psychology. Dr Mesmer (Stevie Ray Dallimore) is handsome and charismatic, and the play is sexy, mind-bending and “Mesmerizing!”

PBS TO AIR VIDEO GAMES LIVE SPECIAL

Performance to Be Held in New Orleans With the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra

DVD, Blu-ray and Volume Two CD to Follow

LOS ANGELES - DECEMBER 16, 2009 - Video Games Live and PBS are joining forces to create a PBS special based around the highly successful Video Games Live concert series. The breakthrough performance, to be taped February 5, 2010, at the Lakefront Arena in New Orleans with the Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra, is slated to begin airing in June 2010 on PBS stations. Tickets for the performance will go on sale Friday, December 18 at 10 a.m. CST.
