New Kidstuff in the Fall

Sid_2 Sid and his friends dance, sing and celebrate discovery on SID THE SCIENCE KID.
SID THE SCIENCE KID is a new educational animated television series using comedy to promote exploration, discovery and science readiness among preschoolers. This landmark production of 40 half-hour episodes, co-produced by The Jim Henson Company and KCET/Los Angeles for PBS KIDS®, debuts in September 2008. SID THE SCIENCE KID, The Jim Henson Company’s first series for PBS KIDS that features a practical in-school science curriculum, uses music and humor to celebrate children’s natural curiosity about science in everyday life. The energetic and inquisitive Sid starts each episode with a new question (“Why are my shoes shrinking?” “Why do bananas get mushy?”) and embarks on a fun-filled day of finding answers with the help of family and friends.

MARTHA SPEAKSMartha_logo_3

Based on the best-selling children’s book series by Susan Meddaugh, the MARTHA SPEAKS animated TV series follows the adventures of Martha, a loveable dog whose appetite for alphabet soup gives her the ability to speak. Using her newfound abilities, Martha gets jobs, wears disguises, foils bad guys, wins contests and orders lots of steaks. A dog’s breakfast of messes and hilarious entanglements ensue for Martha, her family and the unsuspecting people of her town who make up the comic heart of the series. Being a talking dog, Martha lives in a vocabulary-rich environment. The educational goal of the series is to bolster the vocabulary of 4 to 7-year-olds within the context of great stories in engaging, comical ways. Around and in between the half-hour’s two 11-minute stories are a variety of animated interstitials that reinforce the vocabulary. Sit. Stay. Watch out world; here comes Martha! Martha Speaks is designed to use media to help young children build the skills they need to learn to read.

KidVision cultivates summer learning!

Kids may be out of school for the summer, but there’s still plenty of ways to keep on learning. KidVision and PBS continue to educate young viewers in fun and exciting ways.  Among the highlights - Jon Stewart and Ellen DeGeneres will visit Sesame Street!
What's the Word on the Street? Starting August 13, the word on SESAME STREET is "literacy." SESAME STREET’s 38th season addresses the ongoing need for early literacy skills such as vocabulary, rhyming, and letter sounds. Each new episode begins with a "'What's the Word on the Street?" interview with people and animals of all ages who introduce and define the day's "Word on the Street." These words, such as "tricycle," "predicament" and "squid" are repeated later in the show as part of the “street” scene and in a series of hilarious celebrity clips in which stars such as Jon Stewart and Ellen DeGeneres help explain the meaning of the day's word.
78149_56_2 As always, new episodes of SESAME STREET also embrace pop culture with comic parodies such as "A's Anatomy," and "Meal or No Meal," and well known celebrity guests including Grammy nominated hip-hop artist, Chris Brown and CNN anchor, Anderson Cooper. All new street scenes such as "Amazing Alphabet Race" and "The Letter P Game," music, animation and live action films add to the mix -- all designed to educate, delight, and help children be better prepared for school. activities for Summer/Vacations activities for Rainy Days

KidVision and Mother's Day

1 On Saturday we had a terrific turnout at the Young At Art's Children's Festival of the Arts. This annual event has grown too big for the parking lot outside the Museum (which if you've never been to, you simply must) off of SR84 and Hiatus in Davie.
Despite the heat and more than faint hint of smoke in the air, hundreds of our youngest viewers turned out to make paper flowers for their Moms.
Again, thanks to all the great volunteers who turn out to help at these events, we really can't manage without  them.

And of course to Maya and Miguel for showing up as well.2

3_3 We plan to have the KidVision team at many more events so keep checking this space if you'd like to find out where we will be next.
