Ken Burns in Miami

PHOTO_3740010_86294_7498739_main This past week Academy award nominated filmmaker Ken Burns came down to Miami to preview his newest documentary The National Parks: America’s Best Idea. WPBT2 hosted a free screening with 600 guests at the University of Miami’s Gusman Concert Hall Tuesday night to explore highlights from this much anticipated film.

The night began with Burns introducing the film to the audience. He spoke about the national parks with a passion one can only achieve after spending over six years filming their beauty. The preview focused heavily on our very own backyard- The Everglades National Park and Biscayne National Park

The evening closed out with a question and answer session with the filmmaker and a Yosemite National Park, Park Ranger, Shelton Johnson.

The 12-hour six-part series will premiere on WPBT 2 September 27, 2009. For highlights from the event check out www.uvuvideo.org
